MID FACE LIFT
The human life span has become substantially longer as compared to before, thanks to modern medical miracles and advancements. Progress in the field of medicine has not only made it possible for people to live longer but also look youthful even in older age. Thanks to plastic surgical procedures, not only the people can modify various physical aspects of their body but also can look much younger for their age. The focus of anti-ageing surgical procedures is to restore the youthful appearance of a person. Various problems that are caused due to ageing could be blemishes, loss of skin volume, sagging of tissues, wrinkles etc. From a distance tissue sagging and the loss of volume in skin appear to be main problems. Wrinkles appear to be more prominent when seen up close. If a patient is thick skin the sagging of skin causes main problem. While in patients with thin skin the problem is presented by wrinkles or volume loss. In most people, wrinkles begin to appear in the late 20s on face where the skin is the thinnest. With increasing age there is loss of volume and drooping of tissues. Facial contours which are well round are considered to be the markers of the beauty.
To understand the mid face lift procedure it is important to know the various type of wrinkles that can form on human skin. The three types of wrinkles can be mimetic wrinkles, superficial wrinkles and folds.
Mid face lift helps in restoration of youthful appearance to the cheeks and the lower eyelids.
A good candidate for the surgery would be someone who wants the around the cheeks to be elevated. It is effective in the cases where the area under the chin and the neck do not require lifting. The surgical procedure for performing the mid face lift can be either endoscopic face lift or the lower face lift technique. The main advantages of endoscopic face lift are shorter recovery time and the precise results. In the endoscopic method the incisions are made behind the hairline and in the temples. The results which are achieved by endoscopic technique are much more dramatic. With this technique the skin can be lifted both diagonally as well as vertically. In the traditional technique, the incisions for the mid face lift are made and concealed under the lower lash line. The traditional mid face lift procedure is best suited for the patients who need vertical lifting of the tissues rather than diagonal or horizontal lift. With both the techniques however, the end result is corrected under eye puffiness and lifted upper cheeks skin. During the procedure, in addition to lifting the skin fat may also be adjusted to give the face a more defined projection.
How the procedure is done
To perform the mid face lift the surgeon makes a deep incision in the muscle tissues of the face. If the surgery is done endoscopically, a small probe is inserted in to the incision to have a look inside the skin layers. After making the incisions, the surgeon pulls the muscles in the middle of the face to tighten the skin and adjust it as per the requirement.
The incisions are closed by suturing. Once the stitches are made the healing begins. Depending on the surgical technique that is used the recovery time may vary from two weeks to a month.
Once the procedure is complete, a decompressive dressing is applied on the incisions. Also, an ice pack is applied to help in subsiding of the swelling and bruising. Generally, the patient is kept in the hospital for a day under observation for any post operative complications. In most cases, on the fourth day after the procedure, the sutures are removed.
Complications after the procedure
Although these days the face lift is considered to be an out-patient procedure, there are still some risks and complications that can be associated with it. Rare complications may include a condition known as pixie ears, hematoma, asymmetrical surgical results etc. however if the surgery is performed by an expert and skilled surgeon, the possibility of such complications is almost nil.
While general plastic surgery aims at altering a person’s basic features, the rejuvenation surgical procedures such as mid face lift aim at restoration of a person’s youthful looks. Generally, the loss of facial muscle volume and the problem of wrinkles can be solved by use of fillers and Botox. However, a face lift procedure is required when the entire mid face area needs to be rejuvenated.
The procedure is relatively simple but still should be performed by a top-of-the-line surgeon. A person’s looks can greatly affect his/ her life and can have both a negative as well as a positive impact on the mind. Therefore, for getting the surgery done for the mid face lift only a reputed facility should be chosen.
